Emergency Treatments (Trauma) – As well as Private Practice, all the Dentists at Dental on Falconer have spent many years working in the Public Sector and have extensive experience in treating dental trauma cases. Children frequently come off bikes and skateboards and adults and children alike receive blows to the mouth through sport and accidents. This may just result in a simple chipped front tooth to teeth that are badly fractured. Sometimes teeth are even completely knocked out and need urgent repositioning and splinting in place.
Child or adult, we will be able to provide initial emergency treatment and any follow up care that may be required, including root canal treatments or crowns.
Root Canal Treatments – Sometimes deep decay, fractures or trauma can cause the nerves in a tooth to “die” and infection can result. The only options longterm if this occurs, are either extraction of the tooth or a root canal treatment to save the tooth. Root canal treatment is basically a ‘deep filling”. The dead and infected areas are cleared from the inside the roots of the tooth and then these areas are filled up.
Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is painless and done under local anaesthesia like a routine dental filling. It usually takes 2-4 appointments to complete, depending on the complexity of the tooth.
Because a root canal treated tooth tends to be more brittle and prone to fracture than a living tooth, usually a crown will be recommended after the root canal treatment is completed.
Tooth Extraction – Wherever possible, at Dental on Falconer we encourage patients to keep their teeth and try to save them. However, sometimes teeth are too far gone to salvage or require extraction to create space for orthodontic reasons.
All the Dentists at Dental on Falconer are very gentle and experienced at both routine dental extractions and minor surgical extractions, having a combined experience of over 60 years at extracting teeth! Done under local anaesthetic, extractions are a pain free experience where the patient only feels pressure during the procedure.
Hygienist Services – Dental on Falconer has an experienced Hygienist in Sharyn Taghaode. Sharyn works 2 days per week and provides Dental Hygiene services for both adults and children alike. This involves cleaning of teeth, oral hygiene instruction and dietary advice. Additionally, Sharyn is a Dental Therapist and so is very experienced in providing dental services to children including check-ups, dental fillings and extractions of deciduous teeth and X-rays.
